Restrictions on Baggage from the Past for Coaches

Will Craig say's that we are all frequent flyers when it comes to bouncing between the past, present, and future. We do it continuously. Call it lessons learned of the past. Call it a to-do list in the present. Call it goal-setting for the future. The challenge is investing our time in the place it will do our coachee and us the most good. As coaches, we have to recognize that we can do the most for ourselves and our clients by prompting action in the "HERE & NOW."

Mastering Time Travel

Time traveling is something we do frequently and with such great ease. Isn't it often that we tell our clients to visualize their future? And, we do it even when our coachee is fully living in the present — living in the here & now — they still may not be achieving their desired results. And, just maybe, could this be because of that excess baggage they drag with them from their past?

It would therefore do us well to adapt the guidelines and restrictions placed on our baggage when we take up physical travel while flying in real time out of town. Will’s best advice seems to be, the less we bring with us the faster we will pass through the check points and reach our desired destination.

“Let’s have One Bag Only, Please”

The future we dream about is like a narrow security checkpoint in an airport terminal. We can pass through it real quickly and with ease only if we provide for either light luggage or if we are not carrying anything that will hurt ourselves or others. The baggage we carry must be limited to one and must be small enough to pass through the "machine", physical and mental.

Many who are lugging an enormous trunk full of yesterday's baggage, are simply not going to fit through this narrow security gap, leading to sessions that may entail off loading. Even if we check this extra luggage, it will only cost additional time and effort at Baggage Claim.

In reality, we can either jettison our baggage from the past or get left with going nowhere fast. It’s therefore important for us to think … Do we really need to bring all this stuff with us? Happy time traveling!
