Cyberstar Infocom announced that it is all set to introduce Deskstar P7K500, Hitachi's most energy efficient desktop hard disk drive. This new hard disk drive is designed for commercial and consumer PC's in capacities ranging from 250GB to 500GB. It is 59% more power efficient than comparable 250GB hard drives in its class. Deskstar P7K500 represents a significant decrease in power consumption over its predecessor as well as competitive hard drives in its class. Hitachi GST has implemented a set of power saving technologies to reduce the P7K500's active and idle power consumption by upto 40% over the previous generation. Thus the P7K500 has the best of breed power consumption on its one-disk model and significant power savings on its two-disk model, both with 7200 RPM performance and Serial -ATA interface.

The Deskstar P7K500 has the advantage of Hitachi GST's patented load/unload technology to allow for additional power reductions.Deskstar P7K500 offers the industry leading power specifications which support ‘green' initiatives that are aimed at producing power-friendly PC's thereby providing significant advantage to PC manufacturers wishing to create ENERGY STAR compliant devices. It is available in 250GB, 320GB, 400GB and 500 GB with 185 billion bits per square inch maximum areal density. It comes with 8MB (single disk) and 8MB and 16MB (two disk) data buffer. It can operate in 0 degree to 60 degrees C ambient temperature. In addition the P7K500 also incorporates Hitachi GST's second generation perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) heads and disks enabling 250 GB per platter areal density and high level of reliability.
