Here is a typical list of Problems faced the CTO/ CFOs / IT Managers of corporations As related to their IT equipments asset management and e-waste

1. The Extended warranty rates and service packs quoted by the OEM brands are very high : do we have an alternate choice to outsource support of laptops directly to a professional repair company instead of OEMs?

2.The AMC rates for laptops are high and they do not offer comprehensive support...

3. Many laptops are lying irreparable, damaged, slow in speed, can any company repair, rescue, refurbish and upgrade these laptops at very competitive price.

4. Instead of buying the new laptops for the new employees, why can't we upgrade the old laptops that we have and put to good use and save cost on new purchases?

5. Donation / Charity: We have many laptops and the value has been depreciated from our books, but some of them are damaged and non-working, can we to donate to charitable institutions like schools, colleges, hospitals etc, is there an authorized company which can repair and also reach these laptops to needy organizations.

Dead laptops and other IT equipments can be repaired and put to good use and you can save cost and also save the environment by reuse.

6. Every day new employees are joining the organization in larges numbers

7. Each one of them have to be provided with laptops for business use.

8. Budget constraints, delay in approvals for new purchases , long lead time for delivery of laptops would often put the IT manager in tight spot as they are unable to provide the new laptops or back- up laptops on time.

9. There were constant conflicts with the user departments and the IT dept on the timely availability of laptops and support for them.

So after brainstorming internally, the IT manager took a very important decision, that is to repair and reuse the exisitng laptops that are lying as non-moving stock and provide them as standby or even to new employees till the new stocks arrived or till the new purchase is approved.

Amatra's technical team visited the company and took up the challenge of repairing all these out of warranty, out of AMC, end of life declared laptops and succeded in putting the laptops back to the good inventory thus saving cost and generating residual value of these assets.

AMATRA specializes in repair of old, broken, damaged, end of life, 100% dead,

non functional IT equipments through the professional "ETN" and 3 - R philosophies.

So what is this ETN: Equal to New : AMATRA has set up an exclusive test and repair centre where defective parts are repaired, refurbished and  repacked with new labels just as the new product or in other words " equal to new" at very competitive prices.

The laptop repair and refurbish charges at AMATRA is just Rs.750/- plus components charges which is very competitive when compared to the AMC rates of Rs.5000/- to Rs.7500/- for a laptop charged by AMC vendors.

How bout the 3-R philosophy: 1 Repair 2. Reuse 3. Reduce.

As per the green peace report www.greenpeace.com world wide, e-waste is a great danger to the environment, all the defective IT equipments are dumped into 3rd world countries and land filled causing soil erosion and pollution.

As per the US EPA - environment protection agency regulatory and compliance recommends that the corporations may take below the heirarachial approach to reduce and manage e-waste. :

* Repair and Reuse

* Recycling

* Safe Disposal

Some thoughts on Repair and Reuse:

* The repaired laptops can be reused as back up for emergency needs.

* Can be issued to new employees for normal business use

* Companies can auction or sell the refurnished laptops to its employees and get the residual value

* Donate to charitable organizations
