NEN Placement Day Zero, brought together over 80 students from the graduating M-Tech batch and ten prescreened startups to interact with each other in a low-pressure environment. Participating startups included - 8KMiles, AllGo Systems, Mango Techno, Mobisy, Perfint Healthcare Devices, ReadiMinds, redBus.in, Tyfone and Yos Technologies.

Laura Parkin, Executive Director, NEN said, "NEN's goal is also to help startups meet the challenge of finding competitive young talent, and expose young people to hands on entrepreneurship experience in high growth startups, making them better equipped in situations faced by first time entrepreneurs."

Prof. S Sadagopan, Founder Director, IIIT-Bangalore, remarked, "Today, there's a changing mindset towards startups, and rightly so. They are seen as innovative, wealth creating, high-impact, and interesting places to work in. At IIIT-B we have a new breed of entrepreneurially minded students seeking startup experiences as a result of the institute's effort to build a strong focus around entrepreneurship."

Day Zero was structured in two parts: first, a crash course for students about startup work and life. Speakers included Paddy Raghavan, Founder & CEO, 8Kmiles.com, Sridhar, CEO, Techvoyant and Sunil Maheshwari, Co-founder & CEO, Mango Techno.

The second part comprised a series of activities that allowed students and startups to interact with and interview each other in a low-pressure environment. The highlight was the Speed Dating - A unique session that allowed startups to pre-interview potential candidates, and for students to meet with every startup. Each side screened each other in a 4-minute per "date" format. The session concluded with NEN identifying student-startup matches based on mutual consent, and assigning interview slots.

NEN Placement Day Zero is the first in the series of placement related activities under NEN's soon to be launched Startup Jobs program. Officially launching in August, 2008, NEN Startup Jobs is positioned to become India's premier recruiting channel for startups and for individuals seeking entrepreneurial careers.
