Oracle announced that Aditya Birla Retail Limited has selected Oracle® Retail merchandising, planning and supply chain applications to help drive its retail growth plans in the country. Aditya Birla Retail has aggressive plans for the retail space and plans to set up a number of formats under the ‘more' brand. Aditya Birla Retail chose Oracle Retail applications over competing products including SAP. One of the key reasons for selecting Oracle Retail applications is that they offer the flexibility to support multiple store formats. Aditya Birla Retail's ambitious plan to transform the Indian retail sector will be supported by a strong IT backbone built on Oracle Retail applications. The company also will use Oracle Financials, part of the Oracle E-Business Suite, as well as infrastructure software including Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Database.

The Indian retail sector, which is the fifth largest retail destination globally, and is estimated to grow from US$ 330 billion in 2007 to US$ 427 billion by 2010 and US$ 637 billion by 2015. Simultaneously, organised retail, which presently accounts for 4 percent of the total market, is likely to increase its share to 22 percent by 2010.
