Confederation
of Indian Industry (CII) along with Erehwon Innovation Consulting organized 3rd
India Innovation Summit 2007. The last
2 years of the Innovation Summit have been very successful with around 400
people registering. It was mentioned by many speakers that Bangalore is the
Science Capital of the Nation therefore, must be developed as the Innovation
Capital of the world.
‘Innovation
is a way of life and humans are innovative by instinct' said Professor CNR Rao,
National Research Professor & Honorary President & Linus Pauling
Research Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research at
the 3rd India Innovation Summit 2007 organized by Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII). Speaking in the Indian
context, Innovation is required for a long-term future and India has all the
potential to become the Innovation and Knowledge capital of the world. India can give the world the best talent and
innovative minds for a global growth as 65% of the population is under the age
of 30-35 years. India has the edge to
be the youngest country in the world he said. Prof. Rao stressed that
Karnataka, in particular Bangalore, has always been the "Science Capital" of
the nation and over the years has gained popularity as the IT Silicon Capital. He reiterated the importance of setting up
private educational universities and institutions in order to bring in
competition that will lead to the birth of new wave of innovative minds. This initiative will bridge the Industry -
Academia gap.

Consulting Private Limited told that CNR Rao rightly hit on the nail not only
by stating that Innovation is imperative for India but for the state government
to take a very active part in Bangalore. The city has historically been the
science capital of India. The Government needs to give more support not so that
Bangalore becomes the Innovation capital of not just India but the world. Mr. M
N Vidyashankar, IAS, Secretary to Government, Department of IT & BT,
Government of Karnataka in his address told that innovation does not refer to
incremental improvement but has to be constantly nurtured. He further added that Bangalore was the best
destination for the Innovation summit as it has the distinction of the best
industry and educational mix in the capital.
To think differently is the core for any innovation and India needs
people who can fight and learn from failures.
Also
speaking at the summit Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman - Innovation Summit, Immediate
Past Chairman CII Karnataka & President, COO and Joint Managing Director,
Infosys Technologies Ltd. exclaimed, "innovation is relevant today than ever
before". He welcomed all the
participants to the summit, which carried a new, powerful and highly
interactive format clearly indicating that Bangalore has been chosen three
times in a row for such a gathering. He
was convinced that there is an air of excitement among global multinationals
when they look at India, as Bangalore has all the ingredients to attract best
professionals and companies. Mr. N Reguraj, Chairman CII Karnataka and Managing
Director, NTTF Ltd. who in his opening remarks spoke about Innovation becoming
a part of business lexicon the world over and Mr. S Viswanathan, Vice-Chairman,
CII Karnataka & CEO, John Fowler (I) Pvt Ltd also summed up the session and
expressed gratitude to all who have come together and contributed towards the
summit.
