One of the topics which generates heat all around the globe!!
Since decades people have been debating about the cause of global
warming and putting their heads together for finding a definite
solution for it.
Let’s first try and understand what does this term actually mean?
Not that I doubt the IQ level, of the readers of this article, but for
my understanding lets define Global warming.
Global warming is a phenomenon of rise in the average temperature of
the near surface air of the earth leading to the melting of the snow
caps and glaciers world-wide, resulting in floods and similar natural
calamities.
Does this sound scary? Well, yes, definitely to me!
I have read a lot about this phenomenon right from the school days
continuing to the present day. However the most amazing (read:
ridiculous) solution that I’ve read recently for controlling Global
warming, is the British study about turning to vegetarian food habit.
Hats off to such studies….!!!
How conveniently the enormity of he problem has been reduced to the
triviality of following vegetarianism. Is it all that should be done by
people and government in curbing this cause of concern which would soon
turn mammoth, if not arrested on time?
Lets not make ourselves feel so insignificant in our contribution for
saving our mother earth.
Global warming is an indication of climate change, which is happening,
due to callous treatment of the atmosphere by super intelligent species
called human beings.
Post industrial revolution the level of CO2 gas in the atmosphere has
increased manifolds leading to the slow rise in the atmospheric
temperature. CO2 is a greenhouse gas which traps the infra red rays
from the atmosphere and hence heats up our surroundings.
Major contributors to this change are the human inventions and
activities.
Its understood that jettisoning all those activities in one go wouldn’t
be possible.
However, what matters most, is the dawning of the realization upon each
one of us about the severity of the problem. A little consciousness
needs to be created about the cause and effect of global warming.
I think that each one of us needs to do more than just turning
vegetarian.
Eating is a personal choice which only an individual has the right to
regulate, but we sure can add more meaning to our efforts.
What baffles me about the British study is not its outcome, but the UK
government’s proposal for promoting meat-free diet. With the kind of
power and resources which the government has it certainly can put in
travails much greater than what it is doing now.
To me such acts appear as mere attention diverter from the cardinal
cause of the quandary. The need of the hour is to develop alternate
methods for doing things which have been contributing to the problem.
Technology would have to be developed to invent alternate sources.
A perfect panacea cannot be developed for this, but steps can be taken
to alleviate this.
Technological advancement has taken us leaps and bounds ahead of our
ancestors, but it has also put us at a threshold where the onus lies on
our shoulders to safeguard this dynamic planet for our next
generations. Its a legacy, a heritage which we ought to pass on to our
younger coevals. Global warming might not show its impact now, but over
decades its effect would become conspicuous. If we do not take this
fact into our cognizance and continue to show ignorance, then the
consequences would be calamitous.
Well, can I actually help in reducing the level of green house gases in
the atmosphere?
Yes, why not? It takes only a miniscule effort from each of our end.
At least what I can do from my end right away is to create awareness
amongst readers like you about this burning issue. This is not all, but
a good start definitely.
So, I urge one and all to realize their key roles in this effort and
jostle through to palisade our earth. I am doing my bit in the hope
that at least one person would be able to understand this crusade for
preserving the most beautiful creation of science and God!
