Brocade delivers significant customer savings with products up to three times more efficient than competitive offerings. Brocade 48000 Director proved over the Cisco MDS 9513 through a side-by-side operational comparison that was conducted to measure power efficiency. It shall provide customers with significant direct costs savings for data center operations, enables continued growth with available data center resources and helps reduce carbon footprint and environmental impact.

Brocade, networked storage solutions provider establishes Brocade 48000 Director over the Cisco MDS 9513 through a side-by-side operational comparison that was conducted to measure power efficiency. The test helped solidify the position of the Brocade 48000 as the industry-leading director in terms of power and cooling efficiency, which contributes to lower operational costs in enterprise data centers.

Rising energy costs make power efficiency in the data center a critical consideration for server, storage and networking equipment deployments. Faced with increasing maintenance and operational costs, data center managers must now plan for more efficient and scalable data center IT environments. Additionally, they increasingly must account for environmental concerns, such as rising carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, which have led organizations such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to begin developing standards for data center power consumption. During the test, it was determined that the Brocade director was 2 to 3 times more efficient than alternative products. The 2 to 3 times advantage of the Brocade 48000 provides customers with significant direct costs savings for data center operations, enables continued growth with available data center resources, and helps reduce carbon footprint and environmental impact.

The comparison findings are further supported by the release of a Lab Validation Report from analysts firm The Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG). In March 2007, ESG Lab performed a hands-on evaluation and testing of Brocade 48000 power efficiency and Brocade Virtual Fabrics.  The tests revealed that consolidated Brocade 48000 Directors provide significant savings in terms of power and cooling costs compared to the use of physically isolated and under-utilized directors. ESG also determined that the power savings that could be realized with a Brocade 48000 are magnified when used as a consolidation platform with Virtual Fabrics.
